“A Women’s Project in Africa”… A Very Special Focus…
“The Women’s Project in Africa” was started in the mid 1970’s by Lady Wood,
who, with two Kenyan women succeeded in reviving the traditional bead-making process
of the Kikuyu women. Thirty years later this loving, deeply personal process continues.
Hundreds of women have been employed by this bead-making project that might
otherwise have been unable to provide for their children and extended families.
Here is your chance to purchase beads made from the earth of Africa. The clay, which is
trucked from the foothills of Mount Kenya to women of the Kikuyu tribe turn this natural
element into beads, and they do it with their hands. No molds, forms, conveyor belts
or modern machinery is used for these wondrous creations. Each bead is shaped
and painted by hand – and fired at least twice.
A member of the World Fair Trade Organization, “A Women’s Project in Africa” provides
fair wages and good working conditions, as well as a medical clinic and assistance with
school fees for their children. The main products of this important project have
been necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
“The Tucson Treasure Chest”
On Saturday, March 11th come in to see who has the key that
will open The Tucson Treasure Chest!
Will it be YOUR key that opens the Treasure Chest?
